Book a Free Zoom ConsultationThe HCG Diet is one of the longest-standing medically supervised rapid weight loss protocols in modern medicine. Originally developed by Dr. A.T.W. Simeons in the 1950s, it combines Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) — a hormone naturally produced during pregnancy — with a structured very low-calorie diet (VLCD) to promote accelerated fat loss while helping to preserve lean muscle tissue.
Unlike fad diets or generic weight loss plans, the HCG protocol is a precise clinical approach. Every phase is purposeful, timed, and designed to reset the body's metabolic set point. When properly supervised by a licensed medical provider, the HCG diet has helped thousands of patients shed significant weight in a relatively short period — often in ranges not achievable through conventional dieting alone.
At NJ Weight Loss & Preventive Care Clinics PA, our clinical team provides individualized oversight at every stage. We review your health history, monitor your progress, adjust protocols when needed, and ensure your safety throughout the entire program. This is not a mail-order kit or an unsupervised online purchase — this is real medical care.
The HCG Diet is structured across clearly defined phases. Each phase has a specific purpose and must be followed accurately to achieve optimal results. Our clinical team guides you through every step.
You begin taking HCG while eating high-fat, high-calorie foods for two days. This loading phase builds up fat reserves and prepares the hypothalamus to regulate fat mobilization efficiently once the low-calorie phase begins. Skipping this phase often leads to early-onset hunger and reduced results.
This is the active fat loss phase. You continue daily HCG administration alongside a structured very low-calorie diet, typically around 500 calories per day derived from specific lean proteins, approved vegetables, and limited fruits. The HCG is believed to signal the body to mobilize stored fat as fuel, which helps reduce hunger despite the caloric restriction. Most patients report surprisingly manageable hunger levels during this phase.
HCG is discontinued. Caloric intake gradually increases back to normal levels, but starches and sugars remain restricted. The goal of this phase is to lock in your new lower weight without the body rebounding. This is a critical phase — rushing it or skipping it often leads to regain.
All foods are reintroduced carefully. The emphasis shifts to building healthy, sustainable eating patterns. Our team continues to support you with guidance on nutrition, lifestyle, and preventing weight regain. Many patients choose to do a second or third round after completing Phase 4 to reach their ultimate goal weight.
The fundamental question patients ask is: why combine HCG with a low-calorie diet? What does the hormone actually do?
Dr. Simeons' hypothesis was that HCG interacts with the hypothalamus — the brain's regulatory center for metabolism, hunger, and fat storage. Under normal very low-calorie dieting, the body tends to burn structural fat and muscle rather than targeting the deeper "abnormal" fat deposits in the abdomen, hips, and thighs. HCG, in theory, redirects the body to prioritize these abnormal fat stores for energy, which explains why patients often maintain energy levels and tolerate the low-calorie phase better than expected.
While research on HCG for weight loss continues to evolve, thousands of patients have achieved significant results through properly supervised HCG protocols. Our clinical experience is that patient outcomes are substantially better when the protocol is strictly followed and medically supervised — compared to unsupervised attempts that lack clinical oversight.
Medical supervision also allows us to identify contraindications, monitor for side effects, and adjust your protocol based on individual response — something no online purchase or kit can provide.
The HCG Diet is not a plan you should attempt on your own. The very low-calorie component of the protocol can pose real health risks if underlying conditions — such as heart disease, diabetes, thyroid disorders, or adrenal insufficiency — are not properly evaluated beforehand.
At NJ Weight Loss & Preventive Care Clinics PA, every patient undergoes a medical intake review before beginning the protocol. Our team evaluates your health history, current medications, and individual risk factors to determine whether the HCG protocol is appropriate for you and in what form.
We evaluate your full health history before prescribing to ensure the protocol is safe and appropriate for you.
All HCG prescriptions are issued by licensed medical providers operating within legal and clinical guidelines.
We check in with you throughout the program, track your progress, and make adjustments as needed.
Our team guides you through each phase transition to prevent rebound, stalls, and common protocol errors.
Questions or concerns at any hour? Our team is reachable by call or text around the clock.
For patients with larger goals, we plan multiple rounds safely with appropriate rest intervals.
When conducted under proper medical supervision, the HCG Diet can be safe for appropriate candidates. The key word is supervision — a qualified clinician must review your health history, rule out contraindications, and monitor you throughout the program. Unsupervised use of HCG purchased without a prescription is not safe and is not something we endorse or support.
Results vary depending on the individual, protocol length, and adherence to the diet plan. Many patients report losing between half a pound and one pound per day during the active weight loss phase. A standard 26-day round can produce losses in the range of 15 to 25 pounds for many patients. A 40-day round may yield more. Factors like starting weight, metabolic health, and protocol compliance all play a role.
Most patients are surprised to find that hunger is more manageable during the HCG protocol than they expect. The combination of HCG and structured food choices appears to suppress appetite for many people during Phase 2. The loading phase also plays an important role in minimizing early hunger. That said, individual experiences vary, and our team is available to assist if hunger becomes a significant issue.
Certain medical conditions require careful evaluation before starting the HCG protocol. Diabetes, thyroid disorders, heart conditions, and active cancer are among the conditions our team assesses closely during intake. In some cases the protocol may be modified; in others it may not be appropriate. This is why a proper medical intake review is required before any prescription is issued.
